2. Definitions

Learner:
Any individual enrolled in a programme with Kopanyo Investments for occupational training.
Facilitator:
A qualified professional responsible for guiding learners through the curriculum, ensuring understanding and skill acquisition.
Assessor:
Evaluates learner competence against the required standards and occupational outcomes.
Curriculum Compliance:
Adherence to the QCTO-approved programme standards, outcomes, and assessment criteria.
Learner-Centred Approach:
A teaching philosophy where learners' needs, experiences, and active engagement drive the learning process.

3. Purpose

This policy provides a framework for high-quality teaching and learning that promotes:

  • Learner development, workplace readiness, and occupational competence.
  • Compliance with QCTO curriculum requirements for registered programmes.
  • Outcomes-based, learner-centred instruction that aligns with industry and employer needs.
  • Continuous improvement through monitoring, evaluation, and feedback loops from learners, facilitators, and industry stakeholders.

4. Scope

  • Applies to all programmes delivered by Kopanyo Investments as a QCTO-accredited Skills Development Provider (SDP).
  • Covers all facilitators, assessors, learners, and support staff involved in training delivery.
  • Includes all learning environments: classroom, workplace, and blended or digital platforms.
  • Ensures quality teaching and learning practices across occupational qualifications without being linked to a specific NQF level.

5. Policy Statement

Kopanyo Investments is committed to excellence in teaching and learning by:

6. Principles of Teaching and Learning

7. Roles and Responsibilities

  • Facilitators: Deliver curriculum, engage learners, assess understanding, provide feedback.
  • Assessors: Evaluate competence, ensure assessment standards, provide constructive feedback.
  • Training Manager: Oversee teaching quality, support facilitators, ensure curriculum compliance.
  • Quality Assurance Officer: Monitor teaching standards, evaluate feedback, ensure compliance.
  • Learners: Actively participate, complete assignments, provide feedback, engage in learning.

8. Teaching and Learning Procedures

  1. Lesson Planning and Scheduling:
    • Lesson plans reflect QCTO curriculum outcomes and learning progression.
    • Schedules are communicated in advance and adhered to unless adjustments are approved.
  2. Use of Learning Materials:
    • Only approved facilitator and learner guides are used.
    • Materials are accessible physically and digitally, ensuring inclusivity.
  3. Attendance and Participation:
    • Daily attendance registers maintained and submitted weekly.
    • Active participation is encouraged through group work, practical exercises, and workplace simulations.
  4. Learner Orientation and Support:
    • Orientation covers Institute policies, code of conduct, ethics, learner rights, and responsibilities.
    • Learners receive ongoing academic, practical, and pastoral support.
  5. Integration of Technology:
    • Blended learning and digital tools are leveraged to support flexible learning.
    • Platforms provide learners with resources, assignments, and progress tracking.

9. Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Biannual (June and December) facilitator observations assess teaching effectiveness and curriculum adherence.
